The General Board of State Expert Review of Russia has approved a project of a new terminal building at an airport in the Russian Far Eastern city of Khabarovsk, the head of the press office of JSC Khabarovsk Airport, Marina Kravchenko, told TASS news agency on Wednesday.

Some 4.5 billion rubles ($77 million) are expected to be invested in the airport construction. A Japanese consortium will also take part in an investment project.

A general designer of the project is a German company Assmann Btraten+Planen LLC. The facility’s construction is scheduled to start in summer 2017 and is planned to be completed in early 2019.

The project envisages the construction of a domestic airlines terminal with an area of over 26,000 square meters and the arrangement of the railway station forecourt with access roads for cars and public transport, parking and pedestrian areas. The capacity of the new terminal will amount to 1,200 passengers/hour, or up to 3 million passengers a year.
