Last year, China has become the largest producer of electricity based on renewable energy sources, as it follows from the 66th issue of the world energy statistical review prepared by BP.
“In 2016, China has become the largest producer of renewable energy used in power generation, surpassing the USA,” the report of BP reads.
As noted by BP, without taking into consideration a hydropower, the renewable energy consumption in 2016 has grown by 12%. More than half of the growth in this sector has been provided by wind energy (+16% per year). The production of solar energy has increased by 30%.
As a reference, renewable energy accounts for less than 4% of the world primary energy consumption.
