Five European partners of Gazprom had financed Nord Stream 2 pipeline project before the U.S. Senate approved new sanctions against Russia.

The bill, which was approved on June 15, includes an article whereby the United States will continue to oppose the implementation of Nord Stream project, promoting the export of American raw materials to European markets.

“The funds hit the account of the Nord Stream 2 company and are already put in place in the project”, Interfax news agency quotes Vice President of Board of Gazprom, Alexander Medvedev.

According to him, the project partners contributed more than a billion euro. Five European companies financially participates in the project: French Engie, Austria's OMV, British-Dutch Royal Dutch Shell and German Wintershall and Uniper.
