Ukraine signs deal on accession to Europe’s energy system

Ukrenergo, a Ukraine’s national energy company, signed an agreement on granting Ukraine an access to the energy system of Europe, the head of the company, Vsevolod Kovalchuk, announced on his page in Facebook.




Ukraine applied to join Europe’s energy system in 2006.

“After two years of hard preparatory work, after dozens of talks in Europe, we have managed over the last half year to defend our right to join the European energy network... Agreement on the terms of accession was signed today in Brussels during the General Assembly of the European Network of Transmission System Operators, ENTSO-E,” the top manager wrote.

This move will allow unite the Ukrainian market with that of neighboring countries. According to Mr. Kovalchuk, this will provide a real competition and let to win monopolies.
