Russia imposes additional tariffs on U.S. road construction equipment

On Tuesday, Russia announced retaliatory measures in response to the U.S. decision to impose additional tariffs on imports of steel and aluminum of foreign origin.




The Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation Maxim Oreshkin said that Moscow decided to apply retaliatory measures in accordance with the rules of the World Trade Organization. Thus, Russia intends to compensate for a damage inflicted by the new tariffs applied by the USA.
Oreshkin has explained that additional tariffs will be applied to a number of imported goods of American origin, however, he did not specify them. According to the minister, their full list will be published later. Meanwhile, Oreshkin has added that the tariffs will be applied to those goods from the USA that have analogs in the domestic market.
Later, the head of the Ministry of Economic Development told reporters that tariffs could be applied including to road construction equipment.
As a reference, Russian customs statistics show that last year, the United States supplied to Russia bulldozers, bullgraders, excavators, road rollers and other construction equipment worth $104 million, as well as components for these items of equipment.
