The President of Panama, Juan Carlos Varela, has officially invited Vladimir Putin to attend the ceremony for the start of the construction work on the Panama Canal expansion that will take place on the 26th of June.
The ambassador to Russia of this Latin American country, Miguel Lecaro Barcenas, made the corresponding statement on Thursday.
Speaking to reporters on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Panama, he indicated that the Russian President was invited to the ceremony, since this is a historic event for the whole country of Panama.
As previously reported, the work on the construction of the third lot of new canal locks will be completed at the end of June or at the beginning of July of this year. The construction of the canal locks started in 2009 and should have been put into operation in 2014.
