Hong Kong company HK Nicaragua Canal Development Investment Co Ltd (HKND) announced the full readiness of the report on ecological and social impact assessment of the construction of an inter-oceanic canal in Nicaragua.
As Reuters reports, the necessary investigations were carried out by British Environmental Resources Management. According to their result, the project is considered sustainable. Now the main work on the construction of the Nicaragua Canal will start in the ports of Puerto Brito (the Pacific coast) and Punta Angela (the Atlantic coast) at the end of the year.
250,000 jobs will be created in Nicaragua in the course of the project. For 50 years after putting the canal into operation it will be under HKND consortium management.
