During a picnic with friends, the Deputy Head of the Utilities and Housing Committee of the Russian State Duma, Alexander Sidyakin, was attacked in the Tver region.

The incident occurred at the weekend on a small island on the shores of the Volga River, located near Novomelkovo village, the Life TV channel reports. This is where Alexander Sidyakin, who is also a member of the country’s ruling United Russia party, and his friends were attacked by seven heavily-built unidentified persons. The police arrived an hour later, so the aggressors managed to flee the scene.

Now the police are establishing the circumstances of the incident. Among the possible explanations are hooliganism, attempted robbery and a politically motivated attack. Alexander Sidyakin himself refuses to offer any comment to the press.
