On Monday, Rosatom’s representative announced the end of nuclear waste disposal from Ukraine.
Speaking at the “Atomexpo-2016” forum in Moscow, the company’s director for handling nuclear waste, Oleg Kryukov, noted that the reason for the measure was the refusal of the Ukrainian authorities to make payments within the framework of the contract on its power stations’ nuclear waste processing.
The disposal of radioactive waste in Russia will be continued only when the Ukrainian debts are paid off.
We should remind you that the agreement was reached back in 1993. In accordance with it, after processing, the nuclear waste is returned to Ukraine as vitrified high-active waste.
