The construction work and pipelay of the marine part of the “Nord Stream 2” pipeline will commence starting from 2018. The pipeline will be constructed under the Baltic sea.
This is what head of Gazprom, Alexei Miller, announced today within the framework of the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum, which has opened on Thursday in the Russia’s “cultural capital city”. Among the Forum’s participants there are President of European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker, Prime Minister of Italy Matteo Renzi and businessmen from the world’s leading companies.
According to Alexei Miller, Russia’s additional expenses in case of preservation of the gas transit via Ukraine will total $25-43 bln. That is why it’s crucial to determine the party, which will compensate for them, added head of Gazprom.
Nord Stream 2 is a twin pipeline system designed for transportation of natural gas from the world's largest reserves in Northern Russia to Europe. Leading international energy companies participate in the project financing.
