Shavkat Mirziyoyev becomes Interim President of Uzbekistan

As it was expected, the acting Prime Minister of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, was appointed as an Interim President of Uzbekistan.




This decision was taken at a joint session of both chambers of the Republican parliament, the local press reports on the 8th of September.

After the death of the first President of Uzbekistan, Islam Karimov, who had ruled the Central Asia's most populous nation for more than 25 years, it was Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who held meetings with Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and President Vladimir Putin. Apart from that, Mirziyoyev is thought to have a long-term close ties with Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov.

We should remind you that Islam Karimov died at the age of 78 after suffering a stroke on the 2nd of August.
