Power unit’s shutdown at Czech Temelin NPP to last until mid-December

Shutdown of the first power unit at Czech Temelin nuclear power plant is to last until the middle of December 2016, the NPP’s official announced on Wednesday. Operation of the power unit was suspended due to preventive maintenance carried out at the enterprise.




Earlier, the power unit was said to be launched in November. According to the official, it is quality and results of the performed check tests that influences the durability of the power unit’s suspension.

At present, monitoring of a drainage system is being carried out at a non-nuclear part of the steam generator.

As a reference, Temelin NPP was built upon Soviet-era projects, its commercial exploitation started in 2002, seventeen years after the construction had been launched. The nuclear power plant has two power units with VVER-1000 reactors.
