President Vladimir Putin announced that he would be ready to close “Kant” Russian military base, in case Kyrgyzstan didn’t need Russia’s help any more.

“If Kyrgyzstan happen to say that they buttressed their Armed Forces so that there will be no need in such a base, we will leave (the country – editor’s note) the same day,” Vladimir Putin told reporters following the results of negotiations with Kyrgyz President, Almazbek Atambayev.

Mr. Putin stressed that the issue of enlargement of Russian military contingent on “Kant” base was not discussed. However, he added that if Kyrgyzstan would find it necessary to do, Russia would discuss it.

Russian President noted that the presence of Russian militaries in Kyrgyzstan in connected with nothing but the need to ensure security of Kyrgyzstan itself.
