Russia, Indonesia consider exchanging fighter planes for rubber

Russia is interested in the bartering of the party of Sukhoi fighter planes for Indonesian natural rubber, Jakarta Post reported on Tuesday, citing director general at the Foreign Trade Department of the Indonesia’s Foreign Ministry, Oke Nurwan.




“They are interested in our crumb rubber”, - Mr. Nurwan said in an interview with the newspaper, adding that the Indonesian government has not yet made a decision on this proposal. However, if it is finally agreed between the relevant ministers, a relevant ministerial decree will be prepared as a legal basis for such agreement.

According to Oke Nurwan, the government of Indonesia has expressed interest in purchasing fighters manufactured by Sukhoi Russian company. The cost of the barter deal is estimated at $600 million.
