On Wednesday, the Constitutional Court of Egypt suspended judicial decisions relating to the transfer of two uninhabited islands in the Red sea to Saudi Arabia, local media reported.
The Court’s statement says that execution of the court rulings is suspended until they are checked for compliance with the Constitution.
As a reference, last week, the Egyptian Parliament approved an agreement with Riyadh on the transfer of two islands, Tiran and Sanafir, to Saudi Arabia.
Meanwhile, in January this year, the Supreme Court of Egypt rejected a project for the transmission of these areas proposed by the government. The Court noted that the government had not provided sufficient evidence to support allegations that the islands had always been a territory of Saudi Arabia.
