Qatar Airways, the Qatar national air carrier, plans to acquire 25% of Vnukovo airport, Interfax reports with reference to the company's CEO, Akbar Al-Baker, on Monday. The amount of the transaction is not disclosed for now.
The agreement is expected to be signed during the visit of Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to the Russian capital, who has already arrived in Moscow the night before. The working visit will last for two days. It is planned that during the official meetings the issues of cooperation between the two countries in the field of trade, agriculture, and investment activities will be discussed.
Vnukovo airport is Russia’s third largest one in terms of passenger traffic. According to preliminary estimates, this year its passenger traffic will grow up and will amount to about 18.5 million passengers. The Federal Property Management Agency and private investors are the project’s owners. It is worth noting that, since 2011, Qatar Airways company has been awarded the title of the world’s best air carrier four times.
