At present, negotiations are underway about concluding an intergovernmental agreement on the construction of a nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan by Russia.
The construction of the facility will be carried out by the Russian state corporation Rosatom. The fact that the company is discussing such an opportunity with the authorities of Uzbekistan has been revealed by Director General of Rosatom, Alexey Likhachev, who held a meeting today with Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, Rambler.News reports on Friday.
Mr. Likhachev has noted that Uzbekistan has experience in the field of nuclear energy since before the dissolution of the USSR, research reactors operated in the republic. Nevertheless, there have not been large nuclear power plants in Uzbekistan yet.
