Foreign buyers purchased over 60,000 houses and apartments in Spain over the past year. This is even more than during a boom in the local real estate market.

According to Spain’s Association of the Land Register, in 2017, foreigners purchased 60,800 housing units in Spain. For the first time, non-residents purchased more than 60,000 houses and apartments in one year, Spanish Property Insight reports.

The share of foreigners in the housing market in Spain fell slightly from 13.25% in 2016 to 13.11% in 2017. But this is only due to the fact that local demand grew faster than the foreign one. The share of non-residents hit the bottom in 2009 and accounted for 4.24%, but since then it has been on the rise.
