Russian MP Vyacheslav Nikonov came up with a proposal to bypass the possible Denmark’s blocking of the construction of Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline by extending the length of the pipe.
“This will not damage the project: bypassing the Danish waters will extend the pipe by 10-12 miles”, the parliamentarian explained. He added that this measure would lead to an increase in the project cost but, at the same time, there will be no need to pay Copenhagen for laying the pipeline through its territory. This, in turn, compensates for the costs of extending the gas pipeline.
Also, Vyacheslav Nikonov has highlighted that such a position of Denmark indicates a decrease in the influence of German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
