The implementation of a project providing for connecting the Russian island of Sakhalin and Japan with by means of a railway bridge would lead to the growth of industry and tourism in the Far East.
This statement was made by a participant of the Eastern Economic Forum, President of the Japanese transport company Toyo Trans Inc. Isao Takahashi in an interview with RIA Novosti.
“I know that this project has been a dream for many years, its implementation would greatly change the intensity of the exchanges between people, the movement of goods, make a great contribution to serious changes in the population and (development)of the industry in Primorye. I think that first of all this will have an impact on the growth of tourism to Sakhalin, as well as the movement of food and goods between the two countries”, said Isao Takahashi.
The possibility of building an automobile and railway bridge between Sakhalin and Hokkaido has been discussed for several years as part of a project to connect Sakhalin with the mainland of Russia.
