Russian party intends to offer Japan a project for construction of a railway from Russia to Japan, running from Sakhalin Island to Hokkaido Island, at it follows from the Russian Railways’ presentation made during the Russian-Japanese business dialogue in Tokyo.
Potential cargo turnover at this section of the area will amount to 31.8 million tons by 2030, follows from the presentation.
“An expert group intends to develop this project, what includes a feasibility study, for the purpose to look at a synergistic effect produced by this project,” a Vice-President of the Russian Railways, Vyacheslav Pavlovsky, said.
In addition, a railroad from Sakhalin to mainland Russia connecting with the Trans-Siberian Railway may be constructed.
