The President of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, has put Alabuga-fiber into operation, which is an industrial enterprise for carbon fiber manufacturing in Alabuga’s special economic zone. As Construction.ru was told by the press service of the republic, the enterprise was built by a proprietary company, Composite, on order of GC Rosatom. Commission of the new plant, Alabuga-fiber, is an important stage in the import replacement program. The capacity of Alabuga-fiber is 1.7 thousand tons of carbon fiber a year and potentially up to 2 thousand tons. At full volume it covers the demands of the Russian market, the size of which is presently 500 tons. Carbon fiber is used for the production of web fibers, and as thermal radiation screens and thermal insulating material in high-temperature equipment.
