On the 23rd of August, Foreign Minister of Iran, Mohammed Javad Zarif, announced at a press conference held in Nicaragua that Iranian companies intend to be engaged in the Chinese project of construction of a large canal across Nicaragua, the Gulf News reports.
Iranian Minister paid a visit to Managua, the Nicaragua’s capital city, with a delegation of businessmen from Iran in order to negotiate the country's involvement in the project, which is estimated at $50 bln.
According to the plan, waterway is intended to connect the Pacific and Atlantic oceans that would be an alternative to Panama canal.
Apart from Nicaragua, Mohammed Javad Zarif plans to visit Ecuador, Venezuela, Bolivia and Chile.
