Russia grants apartment to Olympic medalist representing Turkey

Yunus-bek Yevkurov, Head of the Republic of Ingushetia located in Russia’s North Caucasus region, awarded Zelimkhan Kartoev, an athlete, who won a silver medal at Rio 2016 Olympic Games, the press office of the regional government told Interfax on Thursday.




Kartoev represented Turkey under the name of Selim Yasar.

“Over the course of the meeting with the athletes, Head of the Republic presented the keys from new apartments in Magas (the capital city of Ingushetia) and the keys from Toyota Camry cars to Zelimkhan Kartoev, a native of Ingushetia, who represented Turkey at Olympic Games, as well as to his personal coach, Adam Barakhoev,” said the press office official.

Yunus-bek Yevkurov congratulated the sportsman with success at Rio Olympic Games and pointed out that Kartoev had a worthy rival.

“Olympic champion and silver medalist from Ingushetia, trained by Russian coaches is a great achievement. This is a perfect motivation for the young people,” said Head of the Republic.
