The President of Moldova, Igor Dodon, proposed to officially ban the production of shale gas in the Republic’s territory, the press office of the head of state reports on Wednesday.
“As a result of activities of the working group established to study the situation in relation to the agreement signed by the government of Moldova and the company Frontera Resources International of the USA, and also as a result of numerous requests from citizens and organizations, the President of the Republic of Moldova has initiated a legislation on the prohibition of shale gas exploration and extraction in the territory of Moldova”, - the message reads.
According to a possible ban, investors willing to explore deposits and extract minerals in Moldova will be obliged to obtain approvals from local authorities, specialized organizations, as well as private individuals and legal entities.
