Gazprom’s losses from abandoning South Stream project amounted to approximately €800 million, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a joint news conference with Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov.

“Gazprom's overall losses in connection with the cancellation of South Stream amounted to some €800 million. Well, they wrote it off as a loss”, Vladimir Putin said.

“We regret. As I understand it and see this, the Bulgarian party regrets about the disruption of the South Stream project. Nobody doubts this since its implementation would be very beneficial to Bulgaria. Well, let's try another tack, in this case — through Turkey”, the Russian President added.

In December 2014, Russia abandoned the construction of South Stream gas pipeline because of Bulgaria's stance, which hindered its implementation under pressure from the United States and the European Commission.
