The Special Construction Agency's enterprises have managed to build, from scratch and in the severe Far East climate, a most advanced cosmodrome over a three year period.

This is what the Agency's press office told Construction.ru, referring to the head of the Special Construction Agency, Alexander Volosov. He made his statement after the first successful launch of a carrier rocket with three satellites aboard.

For us, he emphasized, the construction of Vostochny cosmodrome is a great example of capacity building. The best builders of the Agency's enterprises have come from all over the country and converged on the construction site to take part in this important work.

The workforce from the Agency’s seven main departments have experience of Plesetsk cosmodrome construction, the erection of Roskosmos and Rosatom objects, and plants for chemical weapon destruction.

Over 8,000 builders have been engaged in the construction, as have about 1000 units of the most advanced machinery. The work has been carried out on a double-shift basis, without weekends and holidays.

More than 500 different buildings and constructions have been erected, and 125 km of railway and 115 km of motorway have been laid.

Among the objects are some unique ones spread over the launch complex’s area of 100 hectares. Over 10,000 cubic meters of cement mixture has been poured and 300 tons of armature has been installed.

Even in harsh frosts, sometimes as low as -50C, the builders went on concreting. A large number of buildings are underground. At the launch site, they are connected by 6 kilometers of communication channels.

The launch site itself goes down to a depth of 4-6 storeys. A multi-functional technical complex with an area of 10 football fields is unique, and is intended for the assembly and maintenance of rockets of all types.

Vostochny Cosmodrome is a new Tsiolkovsky town. The first new occupants have already moved into their spacious apartments. Time will pass, the town will expand, and modern infrastructure will be constructed.

Today I'd like to thank all of the founders of Vostochny Cosmodrome, all of my colleagues: the builders, security services and all those who rendered help.

Today the Special Construction Agency employees continue work at the construction site of the complex storing the missile fuel components, the meteorological complex and the residential buildings.

There is a lot of work ahead. I'll say on behalf of all our builders: the Special Construction Agency of Russia won't let you down, said Alexander Volosov.
