Nearly ten companies have got interested in the construction of solar power plants in an exclusion zone around the Chernobyl NPP.

At present, the investors are busy with registration of land leases for these purposes, the press office of the Ecology Ministry of Ukraine announced on Tuesday citing Ostap Semerak.

According to the Ministry, the infrastructure existing in the Chernobyl exclusion zone, as well as availability of highly qualified experts and workers in the field of energy will facilitate the implementation of such projects.

However, the National Power Company “Ukrenergo” claims that nobody has applied yet for connection of solar power plants to Ukraine’s general electric power system, at their construction in the Chernobyl zone.

In July 2016, Ukrainian parliament adopted the law authorizing construction of solar power plants in the Chernobyl exclusion zone.
