On the 10th of October, Shailene Woodley, a 24-year-old American actress, was arrested in North Dakota for criminal trespassing, when she was protesting against the proposed construction of the $3.7 billion pipeline, Reuters reports on Tuesday.

Woodley joined activists of North Dakota's Standing Rock Sioux Tribe opposing the project on the grounds that it will desecrate sacred land and damage the environment.

The actress was taken into custody in handcuffs with 27 other activists on a charge of criminal trespassing and engaging in a riot. Shailene Woodley had been broadcasting the protest action on Facebook Live, so that her detention could be seen online. She also had an opportunity to comment on her detention: “they grabbed me by my jacket and said that I wasn't allowed to continue ... and they have giant guns and batons and zip ties and they are not letting me go,” said Woodley.

Shailene Woodley claims that she was singled out among hundreds of protesters, because she was famous.
