Criminal case initiated over embezzlement at Vostochny Cosmodrome

The Investigative Committee of Russia initiated a criminal case over embezzlement of 50 million rubles at the Vostochny Cosmodrome, which is a Russian spaceport under construction located in the Amur region, in the Russian Far East.




According to investigators, the embezzled funds had been allotted from the federal budget for the purpose of establishment of an administrative complex of the Vostochny Cosmodrome, a spokesperson for the RF Investigative Committee, Svetlana Petrenko, told reporters on Thursday.

Earlier, the Investigative Committee had opened a number of criminal cases related to embezzlement and unlawful diversion of funds at the construction of the Vostochny Cosmodrome. For example, on the 26th of October, Moscow City Court upheld a court verdict against the former head of one of the branches of project institute at Russian Defense Ministry, Sergey Ostrovsky. He was sentenced to five years of imprisonment over the case of embezzlement of over 14,5 million rubles allocated to construction of the Vostochny Cosmodrome.
