Over 1,300 monuments to Lenin demolished in Ukraine this year

Within the framework of implementation of the law on decommunization, in the year 2016, almost 51,500 streets were renamed and more than 1,300 monuments to Lenin demolished in Ukraine, the press service of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory announced on Tuesday.


“In Ukraine, 2,389 monuments and memorials have been dismantled, 1,320 out of them were mounted in honor of Lenin. We should remind that Ukraine remained the largest country after Russia with the highest number of “Lenins” in the public space,” – as it is stated in the press release.

In addition, this year, the Parliament of Ukraine renamed the 25 districts and 987 settlements.
