This morning, the representatives of German Prosecutor's Office raided and searched the headquarters of Volkswagen in Wolfsburg, the source in the company told Reuters.

The searches were conducted over a so-called “Dieselgate” case not only in Volkswagen headquarters, but also in the German office of Audi, which is owned by Volkswagen. A spokesman for Volkswagen has not yet given more details.

As a reference, the controversy over Volkswagen erupted in September 2015, when it turned out that the company illegally equipped its cars with a software that underestimated the true level of emissions of harmful substances.

The U.S. authorities ordered the group to withdraw 482 thousand cars of the brands of Volkswagen and Audi sold in the country over the course of the years 2009-2015.
