The Russian Prime Minister, Dmitry Medvedev, has ordered the allocation of 10.85 bln roubles, the profits from the toll road system on heavy-duty trucks, for the improvement of motorways in Russia’s regions.
Inter-budgetary transfers will be directed to 24 subjects of the Russian Federation, including 20 cities whose roads require upgrading more than any others, according to a decree published on the government’s website on Thursday.
We should remind you that in spring, the Russian authorities made a decision to channel part of the federal budget’s revenues, received from the “Platon” toll road system, towards solving the most acute transportation problems in the regions.
The “Platon” toll road system, aimed at heavy-duty vehicles with a weight of more than 12 tons, was launched on the 15th of November last year. The tariff is 1.53 roubles per kilometer. Over the period of the system’s operation, the federal transport fund hopes to take in about 20 bln roubles.
