On July 5, members of Ukrainian Parliament have endorsed a draft statement addressed to the EU, calling it for preventing the construction of the Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream 2, TASS reported on Thursday.
The document calls on the European Union to confirm Ukraine's strategic role as a transit country for gas to Europe. According to authors of the statement, this is of fundamental importance both for the European Union and for Kiev.
In addition, the statement says that this should be done to allow taking measures on the prevention of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline construction. This project was described by Ukrainian parliamentarians as a “politically motivated” that poses a threat to “energy security of Ukraine and the whole of Europe”.
At the same time, the MPs highlighted “the need to form a strategic approach to cooperation between Ukraine and the EU in the energy sector”.
