An official start was given to the construction of the world’s most powerful multifunctional research fast nuclear reactor (MFRR) in Dmitrovgrad (Ulianovsk region).

As Construction.ru was told by the GC “Rosatom” press office, when construction is finished, global nuclear energy development projects will be carried out there. The MFRR is being constructed in the State Research Center of nuclear reactors as part of the “Nuclear energy technologies of the new generation for 2010 – 2015 and until 2020” federal program.
The construction is to be completed and the reactor to be put in operation in 2020. The MFRR’s primary sodium heat power will be 150 MWt. The unique performance of the MFRR will allow for the creation of fast neutron reactors for NFC closure. An international research center will be created on this basis to study new kinds of nuclear fuel, engineering materials and heat carrier media.
The reactor will be used for isotope production and will allow for medical studies.
