The RF Presidential Envoy in the Far East, Yury Trutnev, has held a meeting in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk on organising the priority development area in the Sakhalin district.
He told journalists about the implementation of the ‘Mountain Air’ development area, thought by the Sakhalin authorities to have the potential to make Sakhalin another ‘Krasnaya Poliana’. 5 aerial trams and 25 km of ski trails are to be built there between 2016 and 2018. The creation of the PDA also includes the construction of a ski village, hotels and restaurants. The first investment in the work at the construction site will be 2.9 bln rubles. By 2020 a balneo-therapeutic health resort, ‘Sinegorsk Mineral Waters’ and a recreation camp with a yacht club and a diving center will be constructed in Moneron natural park.
This will attract between 600,000 and 1m tourists a year to Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. 980 new jobs will be created and 560.3m rubles of tax will flow annually to the treasury.
