The Russian Federation and Thailand have started negotiations to establish the “Thailand — Eurasian Economic Union” Free Trade Zone.

This is what the First Deputy Minister for the Economic Development of Russia, Alexey Likhachev, said during his working visit to Bangkok.

According to Mr Likhachev, Thailand has been offered the same option that Vietnam enjoys. This means the harmonization of customs management and technical regulation, as well as sanitary requirements adjustments throughout the Eurasian Economic Union.

The bilateral format means in particular the liberalization of the service trade, investment protection and specification of labour movement conditions.

Since the initiative needs to be accommodated by Russia's partners from the Eurasian Economic Union, Moscow has pledged to promote the idea and encourage the Thai party to make the final decision.
