On the 20th of May, the construction of a new modern terminal at Simferopol International Airport was launched. This project is the beginning of a large-scale modernization of the whole complex, the head of the Crimean Republic, Sergei Aksenov, told reporters on Friday.

The construction is being conducted jointly with Rossiya Bank and private investors who are financing the project. The total amount of work is estimated at 32 bln roubles, 30% of which is accounted for by private investments and 70% by loans. As a result, the Republic’s share in the new airport will be 49%.

The large-scale airport modernization will be completed by the summer tourist season of 2018. A total area of 78,000 m2 is to be built up, with a new airfield unit on the terminal’s premises. The facility will serve 7m passengers per year and this might grow to 10m. One of the runways is also planned to be expanded to a length of 3,200 m.
