Israeli Minister of Transport, Israel Katz, said Russia could become one of the potential participants of the construction of artificial island near the Gaza Strip coastline, the project promoted by Israel.

According to the Minister, a seaport, a power station and a demineralized water generator system are to be located on the island. An airport and hotels are planned to be constructed over the long term. The economy will function under the international control, what would solve the problem of the Palestinian enclave’s isolation and simultaneously remove the responsibility from Israel for meeting basic needs of nearly two million of its residents.

“Russia is one of the leading powers able to take part in such a project. It has necessary experience and knowledge about the developments in the Middle East, as well as ties with heads of the region’s states”, - the press office of Israeli government cited the Minister.

Among other potential project participants there are China and Palestinian National Authority.
