Airport worth $2 bln put in operation in Turkmenia’s capital

Oguzhan airport is put into operation in Ashkhabad, the capital of Turkmenia, the ,local media reports. A total amount of $2 bln has been invested into construction of the new airport, which was erected on the place of the old Ashgabad international airport n.a. Saparmurat Turkmenbasy.




The facility occupies an area of 1,200 hectares and includes over a hundred of constructions. The project included building of three terminals – the main passenger terminal, the VIP and the cargo ones. Passenger terminals have a total acceptance of over 17 million passengers per year.

Cargo terminal is designed to process 200,000 tons of cargo annually. The new airport has two runways with the length of 3,800 meters.

The airport construction was launched in January 2013, the general contractor was Polimex, a Turkish company.
