Infrastructure construction of the first out of four sections of the site, where EXPO 2020 international exhibition to be located, started in the Dubai South district, Gulf News reports.
The whole project is estimated at Dh1.3 billion, that is over 300 million U.S. dollars.
The first infrastructure section, which is currently under construction, includes the Expo Village, where participants will reside during the Expo period. The construction works, such as sewage systems, water and electricity supply, as well as telecom cabling, are scheduled to be completed by April 2018. The facility is planned to be put in operation in October 2019.
EXPO 2020 is to be held in Dubai from October 2020 to April 2021. The city authorities expect that 25 million people will visit the event, 70% of them will come from abroad.
