Today, the first steel pipes of major diameter have been delivered to the German island of Rugen to carry out construction of powerful Russian Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

As DPA reports, the reason for that is that concrete weight coating of the steel pipes manufactured at a relevant plant in Rugen will be carried out before the pipeline construction.

According to the construction schedule, half of the pipes is to be concrete weight coated and stored at warehouses located along the pipeline route until the start of construction works in the year 2018.

Nord Stream 2 pipeline is planned to be put into operation in late 2019. Carrying capacity of each of the two strings of the pipeline is 27,5 billion cubic meters per year.
