The authorities of Edinburgh announced that the city’s airport would be expanded and presented ‘Masterplan 2016-2040’ on the sustainable development of the facility, The Global Construction Review reports on Wednesday.

According to the plan, the terminal building will be enlarged in order to create space for more passengers and facilities, as well as a larger area for parking aircraft. The cargo storage area will also be expanded and a new link road to Gogar Roundabout will be built.

Apart from that, the second runway of Edinburgh Airport is planned to be closed on the grounds that its configuration and size “are not suitable for frequent use”.

There will also be created a dedicated Masterplan website to ensure feedback.
