St Petersburg expects to earn $153,6m on World Cup 2018

Governor of Saint Petersburg, Georgy Poltavchenko, assessed an approximate city’s revenue from hosting World Cup 2018 in 10 – 14 billion rubles ($153,6 million), having noted a delayed effect as well.




“Calculations are approximate there. According to projection, over the course of World Cup 2018, some 400,000 tourists will visit Saint Petersburg. An average expenditure of a tourist, including costs, totaled 12,150 rubles in 2015,” Georgy Poltavchenko said in an interview to Interfax news agency.

At the same time, the governor reminded that not only city invested in the development of infrastructure, the funds were allocated from the federal budget as well. Apart from that, a number of facilities will be put in operation in Saint Petersburg, which will keep on providing services for residents after the sports event as well.
