The Russian party supports any initiatives aimed at ensuring borders' transparency and fight against smuggling, an interim Governor of the Kaliningrad region, Anton Alikhanov, told Rossiya 24 TV channel, commenting on Lithuania's decision to build a fence on Russia's border.

At the same time, he expressed doubts that the implementation of a project for construction of a 135-kilometer fencing would cost Lithuania 3,6 million euro announced by Vilnius.
Anton Alikhanov supposed that the matter most likely concerned equipping checkpoints with surveillance cameras and special-purpose machinery.
The official stressed that the region was ready to join efforts with its neighbors to counter illegal trans-border operations, and the additional border reinforcement, planned by the Lithuanian party, would not negatively impact the Kaliningrad region. Moreover, he offered Lithuania to purchase all necessary construction materials for the fence in the Kaliningrad region.
