To meet FIFA requirements, $34m to be allocated to new St Petersburg stadium

FIFA and the Government of Russia intend to allocate up to 2 billion rubles ($34 million) to make a new St Petersburg stadium meet FIFA requirements regarding 2018 World Cup, Vice Prime Minister of Russia and President of the event's Organizing Committee, Vitaly Mutko, told reporters on Thursday.

The new stadium will be constructed on Krestovsky island in the Russian city of Saint Petersburg. Vitaly Mutko added that no additional funds were required.

As it was reported earlier, on the 30th of December, 2016, the authorities of Saint Petersburg registered the right of ownership for the completed stadium on Krestovsky island. The day before, a permit to put the facility in operation was issued.
