An English locket of the XVI century was found in the course of archeological digging in the southern part of the Zaryadie park, the Moscow Mayor and City Government website reports.




The 5 cm in diameter locket is made of ormolu. It is decorated with Tudor Rose,the heraldic symbol of the Royal dynasty of England.

In the course of the archeological research, specialists managed to read the engraved inscription: Dieu et mon droit, and the date — 1590. The phrase has been the official motto of the English Monarchy for.

The artifact will be stored in the Museum of Moscow. According to experts it is connected with the Old English Yard’s activity in the XVI century.

Archeologists have worked on the Zaryadie territory for two years, they have investigated about 1,800 sq.m of the future park. Among the most interesting discoveries are the silver coins buried treasure, wooden pavements and parts of ancient buildings in former Velikaya street, an ancient wooden arch, arrow heads, etc.
