Turkey approves design parameters of its first NPP Akkuyu

The Turkish Atomic Energy Agency, the national regulator, approved design parameters of the site of the first Turkish nuclear power plant, Akkuyu, according to the message released by the project’s operator, Akkuyu Nuclear.

The design parameters have been examined, substantiated by Akkuyu Nuclear and submitted to the Turkish Atomic Energy Agency, within the framework of a report on the NPP’s construction.

Harmonization of design parameters of Akkuyu site is a compulsory preliminary condition for granting a license for building Akkuyu nuclear power plant.

The start of the first Turkish NPP, which is planned to be erected with Russia’s assistance, is scheduled for the year 2017.

In 2010, Russia and Turkey signed an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the field of construction and exploitation of the first Turkish nuclear power plant.
