Airports with a circular runways have a lot of advantages and are the future of aviation, Henk Hesselink, an aviation expert of the Netherlands Aerospace Centre, said in an interview with the Netherlands broadcasting Corporation.

Henk Hesselink has been involved in the development of the project for circular airport runways over the past several years.

“The main idea of this airport is that planes can take off and land at any point on a circular runway. This means that, for example, that there will be no need for complex maneuvers in adverse weather conditions, such as strong side wind. Because the pilots can land the plane from either side,” the scientist explained.

He added that the strip radius should be at least 3.5 km and the airport itself has to be placed in the middle.
