The budget cuts affected the plans of airports reconstruction in the Arctic zone of Russia, the Russian Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov said in an interview with Izvestia newspaper published on Monday.

The Minister noted that there are 73 airfields in the Arctic zone, 12 of which are located on the coast of the Northern sea route: Murmansk, Arkhangelsk (Talagi), Amderm, Varandey, Naryan-Mar, Bovanenkovo, Sabetta, Dickson, Khatanga, Chokurdakh, Tiksi, Pevek.

“Current editions of federal target programs provide for reconstruction of eight of them: Amderm, Murmansk, Arkhangelsk (Talagi), Naryan-Mar, Dikson, Pevek, Tiksi, Chokurdakh. However, in connection with reduction of budgetary financing, in the short term, the reconstruction of Chokurdakh and Tiksi airports only is planned”, — Sokolov said.
